JOHANNESBURG – Former Bosasa executive and whistleblower Angelo Agrizzi has submitted a sworn statement to the Madlanga Commission. In the document, he alleges political interference in the Bosasa and Department of Correctional Services (DCS) investigation and prosecution.
Claims of Political Interference
Agrizzi says political interference affected the investigation. He claims key decisions changed the direction of the case. He also argues that the allegations fall within the Commission’s mandate because they involve the Hawks, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and its Investigating Directorate.
Investigation Under Scrutiny
According to Agrizzi, investigators withdrew a mandate to trace financial flows linked to Vulisango and entities connected to the Watson family. He also claims authorities did not charge or interview people identified in state reports as key intermediaries. In addition, he alleges that investigators did not pursue perjury allegations involving the late Gavin Watson.
Concerns Over Evidence
Agrizzi further claims that officials misrepresented affidavit evidence against him. He says they presented conduit evidence as beneficiary evidence. He also alleges that, despite cooperating as a whistleblower, authorities denied him access to documents needed for his defence.
Request for Protection
Meanwhile, Agrizzi has asked the Commission to keep his submission confidential. He has also requested witness protection, citing documented threats to his life. He says he is willing to provide supporting reports and oral evidence if required.
Commission Yet to Consider Claims
The Madlanga Commission has not tested the allegations. It has also not made any findings on the claims. The individuals and institutions mentioned in the submission had not responded within the document. The Commission will decide whether further investigation or hearings are necessary.
