WILLOWVALE, EASTERN CAPE — Police are investigating the murder of a local headman and his mother in Willowvale.
The shooting happened at a homestead in Komkhulu. The area falls under the Nqabarha Administrative Area near Willowvale.
According to police, the incident happened on Friday, 4 September 2026, at about 5:30pm.
Unknown suspects allegedly opened fire at the homestead. As a result, the headman and his mother were killed.
Woman also wounded
Meanwhile, a 50-year-old woman from the community was also shot during the attack.
She was rushed to hospital for medical treatment. Her condition has not yet been confirmed.
Police investigate the shooting
At this stage, the motive for the attack remains unclear.
However, police have opened a murder investigation and are working to establish what happened.
No arrests had been made when police released their report.
Detectives are now continuing with the investigation. In addition, police have appealed to anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge.
