QONCE – A 60-year-old woman has been arrested after seven goats, believed to be stolen, were recovered during a police operation in Luxolweni Location.
The arrest was made on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, following an intelligence-driven operation conducted by members of the Qonce Stock Theft Unit and Zele police.
Seven goats recovered
Police had received information about goats that were allegedly stolen in the Zele policing area in May 2026.
Following the information received, members proceeded to the Luxolweni Administrative Area, where a search was conducted.
As a result, seven goats believed to be linked to the reported stock theft were recovered.
The woman was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen livestock and receiving stolen stock or produce.
Investigation is ongoing
Meanwhile, the recovered livestock will form part of the ongoing investigation.
The rightful ownership of the goats is expected to be established as police continue with their inquiries. Investigators are also working to determine whether other suspects may be linked to the alleged theft.
The suspect was expected to appear before the Qonce Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 23 July 2026.
Police commend community cooperation
Buffalo City District Commissioner Major General Christopher Wright has commended community members for working closely with the police and reporting criminal activities.
“The South African Police Service commends the community for reporting criminal activities and continuing to work in partnership with the police,” said Wright.
He stressed that community involvement remains important in the fight against crime.
“SAPS will continue to work tirelessly with farming communities and other stakeholders to ensure that those involved in stock theft are brought to justice,” he said.
Wright added that cooperation between the police, communities, farming communities and other stakeholders is essential to creating safer and more secure communities.
