
Eastern Cape police have launched an investigation after five members of the same family were found dead at their home in Mfundisweni Administrative Area, Magqagqeni Locality, near Flagstaff, on Friday morning.
According to police, officers were called to the scene at about 08:52 after a community member visited the homestead and discovered the bodies.
The deceased have been identified as an adult man, his wife and their three children.
Police said all five victims sustained fatal gunshot wounds. A pistol was found next to the body of the adult male occupant.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a friend of the family and a relative arrived at the home during the early hours of Friday and made the grim discovery.
Police suspect the incident may be a case of domestic homicide followed by suicide, although the motive has not yet been established.
Forensic experts are processing the crime scene, while post-mortem examinations will be conducted to determine the exact causes of death.
