The community member then called the police.
Police took the baby to Dora Nginza Hospital for medical care.
The baby now stays in a place of safety.
Police said the baby wore a white and pink fleece top.
The top had a cartoon figure with the name “Sophia”.
The baby also had a cream and grey double-breasted fleece pea coat.
Police also found a Big Five pillowcase with the baby.
Police Need Information
Police opened a child abandonment case at Algoa Park SAPS.
Since then, FCS detectives have made enquiries in the area.
However, the enquiries have not helped police identify the person responsible.
The Gqeberha Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit now wants help from the public.
Anyone with information about the baby should contact the police.
In particular, information about the baby’s family could help detectives.
It could also help police understand what happened.
Anyone with information can contact FCS Detective Sergeant Jason Kivedo on 078 959 1727.
The public can also call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
People can also visit their nearest police station.
In addition, the public can share information anonymously through the MySAPS App.
