ATTERIDGEVILLE – Female officials at the Kgosi Mampuru II Management Area’s Atteridgeville Gender Responsive Centre marked Women’s Month on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, by taking part in an agricultural field-cleaning initiative that promotes self-sufficiency and sustainable development within correctional services.
The initiative formed part of the centre’s ongoing Women’s Month programme and highlighted the important role women play in advancing the Department of Correctional Services’ mandate. Through their participation, the officials demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and commitment in maintaining agricultural fields at the correctional facility.
The programme also supported the Department’s Self-Sufficiency and Sustainability Strategic Framework, which aims to increase food production and improve responsible resource management across correctional centres. By maintaining the agricultural fields, the officials contributed directly to these objectives.
In addition, the initiative reinforced the Department’s broader goals of rehabilitation, self-sufficiency, and sustainable development. Officials worked together throughout the programme and showed dedication to strengthening food production initiatives within the correctional environment.
The Department of Correctional Services said the programme reflects its continued commitment to empowering women and expanding opportunities for female officials across all operational areas. It also recognises the vital contribution women make to rehabilitation programmes and the effective management of correctional facilities.
