Eastern Cape — Learners in a training programme are still waiting for outstanding stipends.
Communication seen by ECNewsLive shows different messages from the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA) and Candiz Training Academy EL.
ECNewsLive has seen messages between the learners and HWSETA. The publication has also seen separate messages between the learners and Candiz Training Academy EL.
HWSETA says payment was made
In one message, HWSETA told the learners that it had already paid Candiz Training Academy EL.
However, Candiz Training Academy EL gave the learners a different response.
The academy said it would escalate the learners’ grievance to HWSETA.
As a result, the learners want clarity about the outstanding stipends.
They want to know if Candiz Training Academy EL received the money from HWSETA. They also want to know when they will receive their stipends.
CCMA documents also seen
ECNewsLive has also seen documents linked to a CCMA settlement agreement.
The documents include communication involving the learners, Candiz Training Academy EL and HWSETA.
The documents form part of the information reviewed by ECNewsLive in relation to the stipend dispute.
HWSETA and Candiz given a chance to respond
ECNewsLive contacted HWSETA and Candiz Training Academy EL on Thursday, 17 September 2026.
The publication asked both organisations to explain the situation and clarify the status of the stipend payments.
ECNewsLive gave both organisations until 17:00 to respond before publication.
However, neither organisation responded by the deadline.
ECNewsLive has therefore based this report on the communication and documents made available to the publication.
Both organisations had an opportunity to give their side of the story.
The affected learners continue to seek answers about their outstanding stipends.
