Petrol prices to rise by R1.34 per litre from Wednesday
South African motorists are facing another increase in fuel prices from Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
Both grades of petrol will increase by R1.34 per litre.
Diesel prices will rise by even more. 0.05% sulphur diesel will increase by R2.94 per litre, while 0.005% sulphur diesel will rise by R3.15 per litre.
New petrol prices
The increase will push the inland price of 93 petrol to R26.76 per litre.
The price of 95 petrol will rise to R26.92 per litre.
At the coast, motorists will pay around R25.97 per litre for 93 petrol and R26.05 per litre for 95 petrol.
International oil prices blamed
The increase comes as international oil prices continue to put pressure on South Africa’s fuel costs.
Brent crude oil prices rose during the period used to calculate the latest fuel prices.
Global tensions have also added uncertainty to the oil market. Concerns about oil supplies and shipping routes have contributed to higher prices.
The stronger rand provided some relief. However, it was not enough to cancel out the impact of higher international oil prices.
Diesel users face bigger increase
Diesel users will feel the increase even more.
The inland price of 0.05% diesel will rise to about R29.11 per litre. Meanwhile, 0.005% diesel will cost about R30.05 per litre.
The higher diesel price could also affect businesses and transport operators.
As a result, consumers could eventually feel the impact through higher transportation and delivery costs.
Illuminating paraffin will also become more expensive. Its wholesale price will increase by R2.13 per litre.
The new fuel prices will take effect from 00:01 on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
