Activist Nkosikhona “Phakel’umthakathi” Ndabandaba has called on undocumented foreign nationals operating spaza shops and salons in South Africa to leave those businesses by 31 July.
Call Over Businesses
According to Ndabandaba, the call follows concerns raised by some communities about foreign-owned businesses.
In addition, he says South Africans should have more opportunities to participate in the economy.
Previous Immigration Call
Earlier this year, Ndabandaba called on undocumented migrants to leave South Africa by 30 June.
However, he later distanced himself from violent incidents reported during anti-illegal immigration protests in KwaZulu-Natal.
Government Response
Meanwhile, government says immigration enforcement remains the responsibility of the state.
Therefore, law enforcement agencies are responsible for handling cases involving people found to be in South Africa illegally.
Authorities have also urged communities to use legal channels when reporting immigration concerns.
