South African police intercepted 95kg of cocaine worth an estimated R28 million at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday. The drugs arrived on a cargo flight from São Paulo, Brazil.
Police acted on intelligence before the aircraft landed. They searched the cargo and found the cocaine. Officers seized the shipment and started a criminal investigation.
Police investigate the shipment
The South African Police Service (SAPS), Customs officials and aviation security staff carried out the operation. Investigators are now trying to identify the people behind the shipment.
No arrests have been announced yet. However, police are continuing with the investigation.
