Emoyeni Location, Ward 8, Nyandeni Local Municipality – Residents of Emoyeni Location say they still do not have a reliable water supply. They say the problem continues despite a statement from the O.R. Tambo District Municipality that disputed reports of water shortages in the area.

Municipality disputes water shortage claims

The O.R. Tambo District Municipality responded to the allegations on its official Facebook page. The municipality addressed claims made by resident Bhuti Sheleni Gadi, who said the community had experienced ongoing water shortages.

According to the municipality, officials visited Emoyeni and found water flowing from communal taps. The municipality also asked Gadi to provide his contact details so that officials could deal with the matter directly.

Resident says taps remain dry

However, Gadi told ECNewsLive that the water problems continue. He said many residents still struggle to access water every day.

During an interview with ECNewsLive, Gadi showed several taps that were not working. He said the faulty taps had left many households without a dependable water supply.

Officials allegedly failed to arrive

Gadi also said he spoke with municipal representatives by telephone. He claimed that they promised to visit the area at 10:00 to inspect the water situation.

However, Gadi said the officials did not arrive at the agreed time. As a result, residents say they remain frustrated and still do not have a reliable water supply.

ECNewsLive contacted the O.R. Tambo District Municipality for comment and clarification. The publication asked the municipality to respond to the concerns raised by residents.

However, the municipality had not responded by the time of publication.

Residents seek urgent action

Meanwhile, residents say the water shortages continue to affect daily life in Emoyeni. Many households now rely on alternative water sources because the communal taps remain unreliable.

Therefore, residents are calling for urgent action from the municipality. They want officials to restore a reliable water supply as soon as possible.

ECNewsLive will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
