
Speeding and reckless driving suspected
Three men died in a fatal single-vehicle crash on the R409 near Ngqamakhwe on Friday, 24 July 2026.
The crash happened at Santini Location, before the Ndabakazi Interchange, while the vehicle was travelling towards Butterworth.
Police said a Toyota Corolla carrying three men was travelling from Ngqamakhwe to Butterworth when the driver lost control. The vehicle rolled several times before stopping.
All three occupants, including the driver, died at the scene.
Police investigate the crash
Police believe speeding and reckless driving may have caused the accident.
Officers have opened a culpable homicide case at Ngqamakhwe Police Station. The investigation continues.Road users have again been urged to obey traffic laws.
Authorities continue to warn that speeding remains one of the leading causes of fatal crashes.
