Tyeks Security Services Chairman Arrested After Alleged Shooting at Mthatha Ceremony

MTHATHA, Eastern Cape – The chairman of Tyeks Security Services, Tyelovuyo Buhlungu, has been arrested after an alleged shooting at a ceremony in Zimbane, near Mthatha.

The incident allegedly happened on Saturday, 18 July 2026.

According to information received, an altercation broke out among people attending the ceremony.

It is alleged that Buhlungu then drew a firearm and fired shots into the air.

During the incident, a woman was allegedly struck by a stray bullet. She sustained injuries.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) was called to the scene. Officers arrested Buhlungu shortly afterwards.

He is expected to appear in the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 July 2026.

He is facing charges of attempted murder and the reckless or negligent discharge of a firearm in a public place.

The investigation is continuing.

Authorities have not released further details about the woman’s condition or the circumstances that led to the alleged shooting.

As the matter is now before the court, all allegations remain subject to the legal process.
