The Madlanga Commission heard evidence about WhatsApp messages allegedly exchanged between businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and Mike van Wyk.
Evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson presented the messages during the commission’s proceedings. In one message, Matlala allegedly wrote: “It’s actually good, my person is going to be a National Commissioner now.”
The commission is examining the messages as part of its investigation. Commissioners are expected to explore the context and meaning of the exchange during further hearings.
The commission has not yet made any findings about the messages or the claims contained in them.
