EASTERN CAPE – The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has announced its mayoral candidates for municipalities across the Eastern Cape ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections. The announcement forms part of the party’s nationwide campaign to contest municipalities across South Africa.
Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Bay
The EFF has nominated Mkhululi Dlevu as its mayoral candidate for Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality. Dlevu currently serves as a Member of Parliament.
Meanwhile, Sinawo Thambo, the party’s national spokesperson, will contest the mayoral position in Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality.
The party believes both candidates have the experience to improve local governance and strengthen service delivery.
Focus on Service Delivery
According to the EFF, its candidates will campaign on improving basic services, fighting corruption and creating jobs. In addition, the party has pledged to build accountable municipalities that respond to community needs.
EFF leader Julius Malema said the party is ready to govern municipalities where voters give it a mandate. He added that the EFF wants to improve the lives of residents through clean governance and better public services.
Campaigns Set to Intensify
Political parties have started unveiling their mayoral candidates ahead of the local government elections. As a result, election campaigns are expected to intensify across the Eastern Cape in the coming weeks.
The EFF says it will continue introducing candidates in different municipalities while engaging communities on its election manifesto and local government plans.
