
Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates started the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season with victories on Saturday. Both Soweto clubs collected three points and gave their supporters a strong opening to the new campaign.
Chiefs beat Kruger United 3-1
Kaizer Chiefs defeated Kruger United 3-1 in Mbombela. Flávio Silva scored in the eighth minute and gave Amakhosi an early lead. Chiefs controlled much of the first half and created several chances.
After the break, Wandile Duba scored twice to extend the lead. Kruger United pulled one goal back through K. Ndlovu. However, Chiefs remained in control and finished the match strongly.
The result gives Kaizer Chiefs an early confidence boost. The team will now look to build momentum in the coming weeks.
Pirates begin title defence with a win
Orlando Pirates also made a positive start. The Buccaneers beat Milford FC 2-0 at Orlando Stadium. Oswin Appollis opened the scoring in the first half. Later, Tshepang Moremi added a second goal to seal the victory.
Pirates looked organised throughout the match. They defended well and created several attacking opportunities. As a result, the defending champions began their title defence with maximum points.
Strong start for the Soweto giants
Both clubs have started the season in impressive fashion. Chiefs showed attacking quality, while Pirates displayed discipline and control. Therefore, the opening-day results have already added excitement to the Betway Premiership race.
Supporters will now turn their attention to the next round of league fixtures. The season has only begun, but both Soweto giants have already sent a clear message to their rivals.
