MTHATHA, EASTERN CAPE — Thousands of UDM supporters gathered at Rotary Stadium in Ngangelizwe, Mthatha, on Saturday.
The United Democratic Movement is preparing for the 2026 Local Government Elections.
During the event, UDM president Bantu Holomisa announced Prince Mlimandlela Ndamase as the party’s mayoral candidate for KSD.
KSD is the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality.
Ndamase joins UDM campaign
Ndamase recently joined the UDM after leaving the ANC.
He has experience in youth politics, government communication and local government.
He also has experience in rural development.
After his announcement, Ndamase spoke about challenges facing KSD.
He identified corruption as one of the key concerns.
He also highlighted poor infrastructure and service delivery problems.
Focus on infrastructure
Ndamase said infrastructure projects must benefit local residents.
He mentioned roads, water and electricity projects.
He said these projects must deliver real benefits to communities.
Ndamase also raised concerns about the condition of Mthatha.
He called for stronger action to address the challenges facing the town.
UDM targets KSD
Meanwhile, Holomisa told supporters that the UDM wants to strengthen its position in KSD.
The party also wants to take control of the municipality.
The campaign comes ahead of the 4 November 2026 Local Government Elections.
The large turnout gave the UDM an opportunity to show its support in the region.
It also gave the party a platform to introduce its KSD mayoral candidate.
The UDM will now take its campaign message to communities across KSD.
