By News Reporter15 October, 20260 comments

Police have arrested a 37-year-old man in Gqeberha in connection with an alleged conspiracy to commit murder and a murder investigation linked to the death of 36-year-old Lelethu Nkabi.

The suspect was arrested at his workplace on Wednesday, 14 October 2026, during an operation involving members of National Intervention Operation Bamba and Eastern Cape Operation Ukubuza.

According to police, the arrest follows an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Nkabi’s death in the KwaZakhele area in August 2026.

Investigators reportedly uncovered information implicating the suspect in an alleged conspiracy to commit murder, which police say was linked to a funeral policy.

Police have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing and that further arrests are anticipated.

The suspect is expected to appear before the KwaZakhele Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 16 October 2026.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Vuyisile Ncata commended the investigating team for its efforts in pursuing the case and securing the arrest.

Ncata emphasised that police would continue investigating serious crimes and would not hesitate to act against anyone suspected of conspiring to take another person’s life for financial gain.

The circumstances surrounding Nkabi’s death and the alleged motive remain subject to the ongoing police investigation.

The suspect has not been convicted, and the allegations will be tested through the judicial process.
