Malema Responds to Judicial Commission Allegations in Sworn Affidavit
EFF leader Julius Malema has filed a sworn affidavit responding to allegations contained in an affidavit by Tshepo Nyatlo before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System.
In the affidavit, Malema argues that parts of Nyatlo’s statement do not clearly implicate him, making it difficult to provide a meaningful response.
He says he should only be required to answer allegations that directly relate to him and fall within the Commission’s terms of reference.
Malema also addresses claims regarding businessman Adriano Mazzotti, stating that he has publicly acknowledged Mazzotti donated funds that assisted in registering the EFF.
He further says it is public record that his wife lived in a property linked to Mazzotti under a lease agreement, rejecting claims that the accommodation was provided free of charge.
The EFF leader denies allegations that he conspired to orchestrate the removal of Dr Dintwe and says he has no knowledge of alleged communications between Mohamed Sayed and Major General Feroz Khan.
He also rejects any suggestion that he was involved in unlawful conduct arising from those exchanges.
Malema states that, as a Member of Parliament, he regularly receives information from various public and private sources as part of his oversight role. He cites discussions with KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi regarding investigations into the murder of rapper AKA as an example of information shared with public representatives.
The affidavit concludes with Malema denying any knowledge of alleged Bertobrite bribery involving the EFF, maintaining that the allegations against him are unfounded.
