
Acting Minister of Police, Firoz Cachalia, says the government will spend R600 million to strengthen security measures on 30 June to prevent any incidents that could disrupt peace and stability in the country.
Cachalia warned that it is illegal to carry weapons during protests or public unrest.
He said this includes traditional weapons such as knobkerries, spears and sticks, and that anyone found carrying them could face criminal charges.He also said members of the military will work alongside the police to guard and protect key sites, including important government facilities and critical national infrastructure.
He said the measures are aimed at ensuring public safety and preventing criminal activity.
Cachalia added that law enforcement agencies are prepared to respond to any threats to public order and will take action against anyone who breaks the law.
